He was born August 29, 1974 in Moscow, Russia. In 1997, he graduated from the I. M. Sechenov Moscow Medical Academy (now the First Moscow State Medical University).
From 2001 to 2005 he was an instructor, and from 2006 to 2009 he was an assistant professor. Since May of 2009, he has been a professor in the Department of Hospital Surgery at the I. M. Sechenov First Moscow State Medical University.
In 2001, he defended his dissertation, “The Role of Minimally Invasive Decompression in the Colon when Treating Obstructive Colon Blockages”. In 2008, he defended his doctoral dissertation, “Post Necrotic Complications of Acute Pancreatitis: Clinic, Diagnosis, Prevention, and Treatment”.
In 2007, he received an additional qualification as an instructor for the “higher school.” Since 2010, he has been Chairman of the Department of Physical Therapy and Sports Medicine at the I. M. Sechenov First Moscow State Medical University.
Since 2010, he has been a member of the Russian Federation Ministry of Health and Social Development’s public council, a member of the Russian Federal Medical-Biological Agency’s public council, a member of the consulting work group for the Russian Federation President’s commission on modernizing and technologically developing Russia’s economy, and a member of the Russian Federation President’s Council on Grants.
From 2010 to 2011, he was Chairman of the Commission for Protecting the Health and Ecology of the Russian Federation’s Civic Chamber, and a member of the Russian Federation’s Civic Chamber Council.
Since 2011, he has been a member of the Scientific Method Bureau Council for the Kontinental Hockey League.
He is Editor-in-Chief for the periodicals Sports Medicine: Science and Practice and Surgical Practice, and a member of the editorial boards and councils for the periodicals: Medicine and Health, Physical Therapy and Sports Medicine, Sports Doctor, The Siberian Medical Review, and Medical Education and Professional Development.
He is the author of 200 research papers, has patented 5 inventions, and written 6 monographs regarding surgery issues, sports medicine, and higher education in medicine. He was awarded the silver medal “For Developing Medicine and Public Health” by the I. P. Pavlov Russian Academy of Natural Sciences.
He has been given the title “Master of Sports, Russia” and he is a Moscow champion and Russian prize-winning medalist in speed skating.
