He was born in 1970 and studied at the Moscow Architectural Institute, and then at the Moscow State University in the Department of Philology.
He was a librarian for the Moscow Patriarch’s Synodal Library.
He has worked as a translator and correspondent for the Moscow News newspaper since 1994. Later on he worked as a translator and the international editor of the Kapital newspaper.
He has worked at Vedomosti since 1999.
He was a Harvard University Nieman Fellowship scholar in 2010 and 2011, a Yale University scholarship holder in 2009, and the prize winner for the Paul Klebnikov Fund in 2007.
He is the author of the book “Me and My Country: A Common Cause.”
